Research Administration

From 2007-2015, I supervised all research administration services at Fort Hays State University through the Office of Scholarship and Sponsored Projects (OSSP) which was a direct report to me. During this time, the OSSP expanded its services provided to the campus by organizing and supporting an Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), an Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) program, and export controls procedures in addition to providing grant facilitation services for a grant portfolio of approximately $4 million per year.

I served as an ex officio member of the IRB during this time period and advocated for and secured institutional funding for the URE and several SaaS research administration software services. More importantly, I facilitated faculty and staff members involved through a significant campus change management process in order to bring the university in compliance with Federal research administration regulations. By 2015, the FHSU IRB was reviewing approximately 120 protocols, the FHSU IACUC were reviewing approximately 15 protocols, and undergraduate research at FHSU involved over 1000 students per year.
