Graduate Education

From the period of 2007-2015, I served Fort Hays State University as Dean of the Graduate School. In that time period, graduate enrollment grew steadily at annual rates between 5-10% from 1450 students to over 2600 students in Fall, 2016 across the 20 graduate programs in the university. These programs grew rapidly because they were conveniently available to working adults at a distance, there was little competition

The following duties were part of the task of oversight of the graduate education enterprise systems and processes:

  • enrollment management – quality improvement oversight for marketing, recruitment, applications, admissions, enrollment, degree audit, and degree completion processes.
  • graduate teaching assistants – allocations, contracting, and training for a corps of approximately 100 GTAs across the university.
  • graduate courses and program quality – as chair of the Graduate Council, ensuring that university and HLC accreditation standards were met or exceeded.
  • program review – annual reviews of university graduate programs
  • graduate faculty – ensuring university standards for graduate faculty members were met.
  • research administration– ensuring that Federal compliance was maintained in the area of research administration – IRB, IACUC, sponsored projects, undergraduate research, and export controls.
