Facility Management & Planning

I currently serve the university as a member of the campus-wide Facilities Planning Committee. This committee reviews requests related to the improvement of facilities on a periodic basis. I also co-chair the university Learning Environment committee. This committee is charged with developing a guide for the campus to use in the development of instructional spaces on campus and recommending improvements to general use classrooms to the Facilities Planning committee and staff who support learning space design, maintenance, and improvement. This committee has reviewed similar documents from campuses around the country and conducted a survey of current faculty and staff to gain information about faculty desires for instructional space requirements. This committee is also studying informal learning spaces on campus. The knowledge learned through leadership of this committee about effective active learning spaces has been helpful to me in my development as an academic leader.

As graduate dean, I reviewed and provided input upon re-designed space in Picken Hall for renovated space that became the Graduate School office for five staff members and a large common working space focused upon university admissions and record-keeping functions.

In my role as department chair at FHSU, I managed a department with several unique musical performance spaces: a small 150-seat recital hall with pipe organ, and a large 1300-seat concert hall used for large ensemble performances. Other instructional spaces within the music unit included a small recording studio, practice rooms, mediated classrooms, and specialized class piano room. During this time, I oversaw the renovation of the recital hall and construction of the recording studio using reclaimed space from a music library which was moved to the main library collection on campus.

At Cameron University, I managed similar facilities dedicated to music instruction.
